Recognised for our contribution to Launceston's future

David Lock Associates was part of the team awarded the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) state award (Tasmania) for 'Best Planning Ideas - Large Project.'

David Lock Associates was awarded for our input in the Greater Launceston Plan alongside Renaissance Planning, Geografia, Niche Planning Studio, NRM North, Professor David Adams, Michael Ball and Ian Abernathy.

The Greater Launceston Plan is a major planning initiative being undertaken by Launceston City Council in cojunction with the Tasmanian State Government, the Australian Government with the support of the surrounding municipalities including the West Tamar, George Town, Meander Valley and Northern Midlands Councils. It is a major strategic project to develop a unified and holistic vision for Greater Launceston, that is oriented around building a more resilient community through investment in human capital and liveability, and greater economic diversity via innovation, creativity, knowledge and enabling infrastructure.

David Lock Associates prepared the Development Strategy for Launceston Central Area (LCA) and Precinct Plans for the Mowbray and Kings Meadows District Centres. The strategies identified a vision for the future growth of each centre. They seek to encourage growth through a combination of physical intervention (hard infrastructure) and other activities, actions and governance (soft infrastructure). They seek to facilitate private sector investment and provide a framework within which council can target public sector funds to facilitate development.
