The ageing Waterloo social housing estate will be redeveloped into a world-class vibrant community with more social, affordable and private housing, following the NSW Government’s announcement of the new Waterloo Metro Station.

Waterloo Metro Station has been selected as the 31st station on the Sydney Metro – providing a once in a lifetime opportunity to renew the area’s social housing and increase the supply of new homes to meet the needs of a growing Sydney.

David Lock Associates assisted UrbanGrowth NSW to develop a masterplan that will deliver additional homes – well above the current 2000 housing stock levels – and will create thousands of new jobs in the area.

There will be a large increase in the total numbers of homes in the new socially mixed community, resulting in the creation of a vibrant community with a mix of private, affordable and social housing.

The masterplan and introduction of the metro station will transform the area to allow residents better access to amenity, better homes, better facilities, fantastic public transport and more jobs.

The renewal process will be undertaken in a staged approach over the next 15 to 20 years.
