Highpoint Maribyrnong crowned
VIC development of the year
Highpoint in Maribyrnong has been crowned Victoria’s development of the year at the 2015 Property Council of Australia/Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards.
The presentation was made at a cocktail event in the Alto room at The Langham, with the night lights shining up to the 25th floor.
“The $300 million redevelopment has transformed Highpoint into a dynamic retail and community hub with 100 new specialty stores and over 30,000 square metres of space,” said Victorian Executive Director of the Property Council, Jennifer Cunich.
“The annual awards program recognises excellence in the built environment and heralds the achievements of the industry’s finest professionals and companies. “Victoria’s property industry is delighted to have 27 key projects recognised as finalists in the 2015 national awards, along with two nominees for Future Leader of the Year Award,” added Ms Cunich.
“In 2013, Highpoint completed a $300 million development to become home to the West’s first David Jones department store and approximately 100 additional specialty stores, adding to the existing 400 retailers,” said Ken Knox, GPT’s Project Director – Retail and Major Projects.
“The development of the Centre not only delivered an extensively enhanced retail offer and an innovative design outcome but also created significant job opportunities, improved traffic flow, new public spaces and introduced a range of sustainability initiatives.
“This is a great honour for the whole Highpoint team and for its co-owners, GPT Wholesale Shopping Centre Fund and Highpoint Property Group,” added Knox.
