Malvern Road-Burke Road UDF
adopted by council

David Lock Associates has worked in collaboration with Stonnington City Council to undertake an Urban Design Framework (UDF) for Malvern Road-Burke Road Neighbourhood Activity Centre in response to the opportunity presented by the planned grade separation of the Glen Waverley rail line at Burke Road.

The UDF provides detailed direction for future built form and public realm outcomes to facilitate the transformation of the centre into a vibrant and accessible hub of retail, commercial and residential.

It provides clear guidelines in relation to the access and movement, land use and building design while taking into consideration the physical and technical opportunities and constraints presented by the proposed grade separation. The framework identifies potential new public open spaces and streetscape improvements to enhance the pedestrian environment.

Based on public benefits and consideration of physical attributes presented by the grade separation the frameworks sets out an implementation plan with key initiatives and actions needed to realise the vision of the UDF. 

The UDF was developed through a collaborative design process, including discussions and workshops with the community, council officers and other key stakeholders including the Department of Transport, Planning and Local Infrastructure, VicRoads, VicTrack, Yarra Trams and Office of the Victorian Government Architect.
