Playing a key role
in Chadstone expansion

David Lock Associates played a key role in the recent approval of Chadstone Shopping Centre’s $580 million expansion.

The latest development at one of Melbourne’s major shopping centres – the largest in the Southern Hemisphere - will see an additional 40 retailers, office accommodation, 800 new parking spaces and a hotel and is expected to create 2700 jobs in the construction phase.

David Lock Associates’ Principal, Mark Sheppard, provided independent urban design evidence to a panel hearing about the expansion plans, which led to an amendment to the planning scheme to allow the development.

The panel agreed with Mark’s view that the height increases are appropriate.

The changes to the Stonnington Planning Scheme will allow Chadstone, which is owned by the Gandel Group and CFS Retail Property Trust Group (CFX), to maintain its position as one of the most highly visited retail centres in the world.
