David Lock Associates provided urban design advice to Seilder Homes for a precinct development site at 111 Kinross Avenue, Edithvale. The site consists of 47 high quality two, three and four bedroom townhouses that reflect the character of Kinross Avenue and repairs the existing disruption to its residential use and built form.
David Lock Associates initially prepared a concept masterplan and then met with the City of Kingston Council to provide an understanding of the design response adopted for the site.
Following our initial advice, we provided urban design advice to the architects in the preparation of the application plans. We then prepared an urban context and design response report to accompany the planning application and address Clause 52.03 of the Planning Scheme. The urban context report provided detail on how the overall design concept responded to the physical and policy context of the site. Key responses included maintaining Kinross Avenue’s streetscape rhythm and character, respecting neighbouring residential character and amenity, introducing private open spaces along the boundary to provide a landscape buffer, establishing an inviting pedestrian environment as well as adding to the housing diversity of the locality.
