The first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in Ho Chi Minh City is planned for the Vo Van Kiet corridor between Mien Tay and Cat Lai. This is part of a wider project to improve and develop the environmental conditions along the corridor.
The purpose of the Transport and Land Use Study is to define the potential to integrate the delivery of transport systems and infrastructure with holistic land use planning and good urban design. One of the primary considerations of the study was how the urban realm surrounding the potential station locations should be improved. Effectively integrating the future transport infrastructure into the existing urban fabric maximises the project’s economic and social uplift opportunities.
A two day workshop with key stakeholders along the proposed corridor was the primary method by which the consultant team analysed the land use and urban design potential through delivery of the BRT system. This report has used the information and aspirations recorded at the workshop to inform the preparation of recommendations for the delivery of the BRT corridor.
The Transport and Land Use Study is a result and record of the two day workshop. Significant outputs of the report include:
- A record of Existing Conditions;
- Recommendations and Framework Plans identifying opportunities for change;
- Objectives, Strategies and Design Guidelines; and
- Clearly articulated Next Steps.
Recommendations from the study ranged from strategic planning issues to detailed design consideration, as well as further opportunities for community engagement. To enable these recommendations to be realised, David Lock Associates also provided advice about the potential roles and responsibilities of the appropriate executing agencies in delivering the outcomes.
